fieses Licht
Today’s Wolfsburg Renaissance Palace originates from a medieval moated castle dating back to 1302, and gave the city its name. On the invitation of the Städtische Galerie, which is housed next to the city museum and the Kunstverein, the artist developed a light installation for the south façade. After dusk the window of the “Ritterhaus palace,” the gable window of the Wendelstein tower, and the top of the Hausmann tower were garishly lit in a rhythmic frequency every second, every ten seconds, and every hundred seconds. The punctuated light choreography recalled Morse code of the high seas and was here a silent communication that is primarily anchored as an emergency signal or a dangerous situation in human consciousness. Against the backdrop of the palace at night thoughts are not far from horror stories of past times, however, due to the quality and rhythm of the light the event was also bound to modern reality. (JO)
